These quality control videos mimic analysis of a semen sample as closely as video permits. The videos can be used for either the Static or the Natation method of determining motility. Click on the button below for the procedures for each method.
Note: Concentration can not be determined using these videos. A grid has been added for ease of counting only.
Section One of each video contains multiple fields of a fresh semen sample. Section Two contains the same number of fields of an immobilized semen sample. When counting the sperm, do not average the fields. Use the total counted in all fields for your calculations.
Before watching each video, print out the Sperm Motility Analysis Worksheet to have ready to use as you calculate the percent motility. Print the Levey-Jennings control charts provided with each video and use them to check your results against the correct mean and range (3 standard deviations).
Note: Ranges were determined using the Static method. If you use the Natation method, your results may vary.
